Healthy High Performance Green Cleaning
In a presentation on improving workplace environmental quality, Dave Nicklas, Manager of Corporate Facilities & Services for JohnsonDiversey Inc. said improper cleaning can cost the U.S. economy more than $60 billion annually in lost productivity caused by illnesses in tighter buildings, and poor air circulation in work spaces that have greater people density. Mr. Nicklas said on average people spend 90% of their time indoors where contaminants can be two to five times worse than outdoors. One result of this is in the home environment is that asthma has increased 160% among young children since 1980. In addition, there is a suspected linked between poor quality indoor environments and some forms of cancer.
An Environmental Impact Study by Dr. Michael Berry of the Frank Porter Graham Development Center found that proper cleaning can reduce airborne dust by 52%, total Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) by 49%, and bacteria by 40%.
